Amgen Tour of California day 3 + 5

May 19th, 2012 by Samson

Stage 3 was a tough one to follow but I was able to make it make it to two of the King of the Mountain points. First one unfortunately didn’t get to capture digitally but I messed my timer up and missed them roll by, got it on film tho. Drove over to Mt. Diablo where I was able to drive all the up to the top of the climb, through the tunnels of people and parked right next to the line. Got to love the Media sticker I had on my car! Got some cool shots there and moved down to the finish where I saw them come in very very fast as usual. Skipped stage 4 due to how far it was and my schedule.
Stage 5, the ITT(individual time trial) got in touch with Road Mag and was able to get myself into two team cars to shoot from. First was Liquigas American rider Tim Duggan, who has been doing a lot of work the whole week for his team. I was in the car with one of the directors, Tims Mom, the Mechanic Win who also works on my bikes!, and velo news filming from the back. You can actually see me shooting from the car at :45 sec into the this video, pretty cool! Second car I rode in was with United Health Care rider Jeff Louder who was third overall coming into that day. It seemed to have gotten hotter and windier but he still had a good ride and I got some good shots. Once again…can’t wait to see the film but here is the digital for now.

Amgen Tour of California Day 1-2

May 14th, 2012 by Samson

Got photo credentials for this years Amgen Tour of California. Really excited to get out there and follow the tour! Have been doing my best being out there with no follow car or being able to get on a “photo moto” yet but it has been an experience so far. I am shooting a lot of film but have my dslr with me to get some up faster. Here are a few from the past few days, can’t wait to get the film developed!

New Orleans and Portland

May 11th, 2012 by Samson

Got the chance to get back to New Orleans for a few days for work. Didn’t have much free time as I would like but got some good food as usual and tried a few different places to add to the memory bank for when I get back. Best part was we stayed at a house rental and it was an awesome place done up really well. Didn’t look to good the first time pulling up to it but once you got inside it was great. It felt like we were staying at the Real World house of some sorts. Later that month headed up to Portland for another quick trip. Landed in the evening, worked the next day, and the next then headed out that night. Got to see a friends band play that I missed in LA a few nights before and coincidentally they were playing in Portland while I was there which was awesome. Walked around over the Burnside Bridge one night and what a great view of the city that was. Definitely need to get back up to Portland to have some more free time to roam around and get more great coffe!

New York january 2012

April 24th, 2012 by Samson

A bit late on this, but got the film developed from our trip out to New York for Darcy’s birthday earlier this year. We new it would be cold so we packed for it. First day was perfectly sunny, but still freezing for us Californians. Through the first night it snowed a few inches and it looked so great out with the snow cover on the city. I have never seen that before and it was really awesome, totally changes the place. Saw some friends while we were out there and ate our way through each day as usual. We got to ice skate in Central Park as well while it was covered in snow. Had a great long weekend there and it was nice to be there for longer then 24hrs and not have to work. Already needing to get back, the planning starts now…

LUX Pro Development Cycling Team

April 10th, 2012 by Samson

I was asked to shoot a friends/bike mechanic/now team managers development team a bit back. They are all teenagers so it was a definitely a handful wrangling them all up to get them together and to sit tight for a few minutes. There kits definitely stand out so I thought it would be fun to do it with a dark background to go with the vibe of the kit. Look out for all these guys on the road, you pretty much can’t miss them.

Shoes for TRI Magazine

March 28th, 2012 by Samson

Went in to shoot some product for TRI Magazine and had a few “super light” shoes to shoot. Talked with them and had the idea of putting them on a scale and having one float above to show how light they are. Came out pretty awesome, always fun to make things float. Here are a few shots

Jax!

February 29th, 2012 by Samson

Well to say time flies when you are busy is an understatement. Especially when you are taking care of another living creature that is in your hands. Darcy and I adopted a mini Australian Shepherd recently and taking care of a puppy at a young age is a lot of work! In between that and working, the days and weeks go by. But, he is one damn cute little smart puppy, and I can not wait until he gets older and settles down more and becomes an “adult”. He definitely takes a lot of room in my photo album on my phone, I can’t help it…

Bellwether Fall/Winter 2012 Catalog

February 2nd, 2012 by Samson

At the end of the year had a fun day shooting the Bellwether Clothing up in the Santa Monica Mountains. Was looking for more gloomy weather since the forecast was mostly cloudy with chances of rain, perfect! Well, in typical California fashion is was perfectly sunny with not a cloud in the sky. Had to work with what we had, and luckily it was cold enough so the models didn’t over heat in the winter gear. Only one flat and many outfit changes later we finished. Got some solid shots and the catalog came out great. Here are a few tears from it

Nov/Dec recent rolls on two wheels

January 9th, 2012 by Samson

Spent a good amount of time riding and racing and the rolls of film sat on my desk for to long, so I got them processed. Always fun to go through a month or two of shots. Also shot a fall catalog for a cycling apparel company, waiting on the OK to release them. More photos in a gallery if you click a pic
